In 2012 I was selected for my first ever international artist residency, I was super excited about it but in the aftermath of 9/11 in the United States, I didn’t know traveling to Europe as a Pakistani would be a nightmare too. It turned out to be really strange experience as I was treated very coldly by the locals during my residency period in Graz, Austria.

As unwelcomed and omitted I felt in the city, I decided to be as extreme obvious by wearing a Pakistani kurta, dying it in color yellow, wrapping my luggage and personal belongings in yellow security tape, walking around the whole city, mutely yelling my frightening identity, a ‘terror traveler’.

The performance was done consecutively for a week at various corners and spots in the city and was photographed by my fellow resident artists which I represented as a document in the end.
